Principal's Message
Welcome to the 2016-2017 School Year!

I am excited and honored to be the principal of Galena K-8 School!

I am a product of the Marshall County School District. I graduated valedictorian of the 1991 Class of H.W. Byers High School. I went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from The University of Southern Mississippi. I later obtained a Master of Arts in Teaching from The University of Memphis where I had the privilege of student teaching in Sydney, Australia. I then completed the Mississippi Alternate Path to Quality School Leadership and the National Institute for School Leadership. I have taught at H.W. Byers Elementary for the past twelve years and served as the Administrative Assistant for the past five years.

I am an active member of Mt. Zion Taska Missionary Baptist Church. I am the church bulletin secretary, a member of the media team, captain of our Relay For Life team, co-director of our Summer Day Camp, and a volunteer for VBS and the Health Ministry.

Most importantly, I am the proud mom of Jahkel Scott who is also a product of the Marshall County School District. He graduated valedictorian of the 2015 Class of H.W. Byers High School and is currently majoring in pharmaceutical sciences at The University of Mississippi.

It is my desire for us to continue to build upon the great foundation that has been laid at Galena. We will promote scholarship, leadership, stewardship, and citizenship while providing a safe and engaging environment that is conducive to academic and social growth. It will take the school, parents, and community working together to ensure that these core values are embedded in our students. It is not just parental involvement that we are seeking; it is community involvement. As the saying goes, "It takes a village to raise a child."

Watch the Eagles SOAR!
Strive for Excellence. Own Your Choice. Accentuate the Positive. Respect Yourself and Others.

Sincerely,
Shoanee L. Garrison

SchoolBlocks offers a unique and powerful personalized search system. A member of the public, searching for "homework" might see an announcement from the school as the first result. However, if the user is logged in, they would see their teacher’s latest homework assignment as the top result.
